Panorama "The Pleven Epopee 1877"

Panorama "The Pleven Epopee 1877" is the emblem of Pleven and one of the most impressive cultural monuments in Bulgaria. It was opened in 1977 to mark the 100th anniversary of the Liberation and recreates the dramatic battles for the city during the Russo-Turkish War.

The artistic canvas is the work of a team of Russian and Bulgarian painters. With an area of over 2,000 square metres and an imposing height, combined with a three-dimensional foreground, it captures the most intense moments of the siege of Pleven in 1877.

The exhibition is laid out across several halls dedicated to the main battles for the city. Light and sound effects heighten the sense of immersion — as if you were standing in the very heart of the battle.

The Panorama is the heart of a memorial complex in Skobelev Park, surrounded by monuments and greenery. It is one of only a few such structures in the world and the only one of its kind in the Balkans.

A visit usually takes about an hour and often includes a guided talk that brings the historical events to life and explains the significance of the individual scenes and figures.

The Panorama is among Bulgaria's Hundred National Tourist Sites and draws visitors from across the country and abroad. For organised groups, guided talks can be arranged in advance.
